We'd love to know when and how you're arriving in Hawaii. Once you've made your flight arrangements, please e-mail May-Ling your cell phone number and flight information. We can coordinate airport pickups and know when you'll be on the island.
You'll fly into the Honolulu Airport on the island of Oahu, HNL. The following airlines fly to Honolulu: Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, American Airlines,Air Pacific Airways, China Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Qantas, United Airlines and WestJet. p Guests flying from the West Coast and Las Vegas can use the code WED652 to receive a 5% discount on Hawaiian Airlines in our wedding block. It's our favorite airline out to Honolulu, but please only use the code if it gets you a cheaper rate.
We have rented a large house from March 10-17, 2010 in Kailua for guests to stay. It
won't accommodate the whole party, but we'd like to have immediate family, the
bridal party and others that plan to stay beyond the weekend join us there. The house will
have free wi-fi, so bring your laptops!
If you're interested in staying with us in the house, please e-mail May-Ling as soon as
possible, as we'll be trying to fill up rooms. If there is a lot of demand, we can arrange
to rent another house nearby. This can be a lot more economical for our guests – to combine
into larger houses. If you crave the nightlife of Waikiki or prefer more privacy, you might
prefer staying in a hotel and there are often great vacation deals when you buy your airfare,
hotel and/or car in a package.
If you plan to stay in the Waikiki area the whole time, or in the house with us, you
shouldn't need a car during your stay. At the house, there's a limited number of
vehicles that can park in the area.
If you'd like to explore the island on your own, a rental car is highly suggested. If
staying at a hotel, note that parking rates can be high; many hotels offer shuttles that easily
get you around the downtown area. In general, driving in Hawaii can be slow, since around the
island, there's often only one road to take and then traffic happens.
We've been to Hawaii a couple times now and would suggest you pack the following
items for your stay. In March, the weather is 52-82 with warm temperatures. Note that it
can be windy with sudden rainstorms, so a light jacket is a great idea. p Necessities:
sunblock, beach towel, sunglasses, swimsuits, flip flops, walking or water shoes for
hiking, light rain jacket, camera, cash (for mom & pop establishments)
Possibilities: snorkeling gear (mask/fins – these can be cheaply rented at Hanauma Bay or for
the week, but if you plan on going several times, it can be economical to buy in advance),
underwater camera
